This edition enhances the hyper-minimal design of the TYPE 3 with a striking black finish, where the dark hue and oil-filled chamber render the space between the discs nearly invisible, creating a mesmerizing effect when the dial moves. Benoît Mintiens, Founder of Ressence, describes the nearly pitch-black TYPE 3 BB2 as showcasing the magic of flush rotating discs, which act like a mechanical screen, tricking the viewer’s senses. The watch features an edge-to-edge sapphire crystal, resembling a sleek dark pebble, and a matt black DLC-coated titanium case that contrasts subtly with the glossy sapphire. Building on the limited 2022 TYPE 3 BBB’s reduced color palette, the TYPE 3 BB2 primarily uses white and light grey inscriptions with touches of primary colors on weekends and oil temperature indicators. Originally launched in 2013 as the first oil-filled mechanical watch, the TYPE 3 offers exceptional readability from any angle by eliminating light refraction. It also remains easily readable in low light, thanks to Grade A Super-LumiNova®. To maintain performance despite temperature fluctuations, Ressence developed the Bellows System, a self-regulating pressure-balance mechanism graphically represented by a temperature gauge on the dial.
