The Russian Time. Krusenstern watch was made by Konstantin Chaykin as a unique piece in 2016, on the 210th anniversary of the first round-the-world expedition in the history of Russia, accomplished by two ships of the Russian fleet under the command of Ivan Fyodorovich Krusenstern. This watch features an especially modified movement taken from the original Russian Time model, in which Konstantin Chaykin’s invention of a Russian Time multi-timezone display with twin time zone indicator showing Russia’s eleven time zones is supplemented by a classic world-time indicator found on the caseback. The world time indicator placed on the caseback is synchronised with Chaykin’s Russian Time twin multi-timezone display. The construction looks mysterious, as at first glance it appears the two indicators are not connected at all. The sapphire disk allows the world time mechanism to be completely visible. Konstantin Chaykin is the recognised master of the “mysterious” watch, but he reveals the secret of this construction: “We placed a sapphire disk in the back of the movement, an idea just like in the Levitas watch. Via a pinion meshed with teeth around its edge, the rotation is transmitted through the movement from the upper disc of the time-zone indicator, which is found on the opposite side of the dial.” There is something special about observing the watch being built. It is not just a mechanical process, but a true art in which the meticulous work of the master craftsman is combined with the precision of technical thinking. Assembling a watch is something that can fascinate, inspire and convey a sense of wonder. The caliber K.01-7 WT of the Russian Time. Krusenstern watch was developed by Konstantin Chaykin. The movement, which is developed to accommodate the Russian Time twin multi-timezone display, was made entirely at the Konstantin Chaykin Manufacture and based on a three-quarter plate construction. The caliber is made to the standards of haute horlogerie, using traditional techniques in the finishing of its components: Côtes de Genève, perlage; fine straight and circular grinding; hand-polished chamfers; engravings; polished screw, pin and jewel recesses; ball polishing of the pivots; and rhodium plating. Caliber: K01-7 WT, hand-wound, made by Konstantin Chaykin Manufacture Power reserve: 48 hours Functions: – Hours and minutes of local time; – Russian Time twin multi-timezone display: – World Time display on the back of the watch The case and dial of the watch are elaborately decorated by hand. The 18k rose gold case is artfully engraved and embossed along the caseband. Detailed images of the ships “Neva” and “Nadezhda”, in which Russian sailors circumnavigated the world, are engraved on the caseband on the side of the crown. A world map showing the expedition route is engraved on the opposite side of the caseband. A map of Russia is engraved on the dial using the hot enamel technique – all eleven time zones are marked in color on a schematic but detailed map. Case dimensions: Diameter 44 mm; 13.5 mm thick
