Louis Erard and atelier oï, renowned for their expertise in Swiss watchmaking and design, respectively, collaborated to reinvent the iconic Regulator model. This partnership aims to merge tradition with contemporary spirit amidst technological advancements. Stemming from a longstanding professional and personal relationship, the collaboration aimed to democratize watchmaking and challenge elitist perceptions. Atelier oï approached the redesign by focusing on radiating from the center outward, evoking a sundial with engraved asymmetrical rays. The resulting dial, animated by the movement of the wrist, reflects the passion for material and light play. The hands of the watch serve as centers from which rays emerge, creating visual kinetics and depth. Despite the somewhat dematerialized reading of time, the dial retains elements reminiscent of traditional timepieces, such as the minute-circle, serving as a nod to the significance of time in today’s context.
