After the success of its earlier subscription pieces, MONOCHROME returns with its fifth Montre de Souscription, this time in partnership with Angelus. The result is the Montre de Souscription 5 Angelus Chronographe Tachymètre, a compact, hand-wound monopusher chronograph that distils everything the publication values: restrained vintage design, enduring proportions, a purposeful complication and a movement with genuine horological pedigree. Produced as a subscription-only edition of just 20 pieces, it is conceived as a timeless chronograph rather than a fleeting statement. At its heart lies the Angelus Calibre A5000, a movement whose origins trace back to the late 1980s and the influential THA workshop founded by François-Paul Journe, Denis Flageollet and Vianney Halter. Originally conceived as a slim monopusher chronograph, the calibre has since been refined by La Joux-Perret for modern standards while preserving its traditional architecture. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement offers an engaging, old-school spectacle: column wheel, levers and gears all on display, finished with Geneva stripes, polished bevels, chamfered steel components and gold-toned wheels. Visually, the watch reinterprets Angelus’ Chronographe Télémètre with a motorsport-inspired twist. The telemeter scale is replaced by a rare, snailed tachymeter spiralling around the dial’s edge, reinforcing the link to speed and driving. A matte, pale gold-coloured dial with black printing, applied markers and luminous hands adds warmth and vintage charm. Housed in a slim 37mm stainless steel case with long lugs, brushed and polished surfaces, and a crown-integrated monopusher, the MdS 5 is refined, balanced and unmistakably purposeful.
