For the Shabbat clock, Konstantin Chaykin invented a unique complication with mechanical logic, a kind of mechanical computer that analyzes the status of the calendar and the mainspring barrel. Based on this information, the mechanical computer decides whether to keep the clock running or stop it. When it decides to stop, the special lever stops the tourbillon and thus the entire movement. The clock that can stop its tourbillon is one of the most important developments in modern clockmaking by Konstantin Chaykin. He was also the first to use the stop mechanism of a tourbillon to create a Shabbat complication that had never been existed in a clock. The Shabbat table clock is equipped with a very complex movement with tourbillon, Jewish calendar, moonphase and power reserve indicators, which makes its assembly a particularly challenging task. This clock has something that is almost impossible to find in other table clocks – a fine finishing of all parts, the quality of which is comparable to the finishing of the parts of a luxury wristwatch.
