The Luna Magna Platinum Dragon Verdite is Arnold & Son’s most ambitious dial composition to date. A white gold dragon, hand-engraved from a solid block, coils across a verdite dial in pursuit of the 12mm three-dimensional lunar globe at the heart of the piece. The composition draws from the Asian legend of the Dragon and the Pearl of Wisdom, mapping the moon’s dual role as astronomical instrument and object of desire onto a single dial. The case carries the verdite beyond the dial into its own architecture: platinum frame, white gold body, verdite base. Limited to eight pieces. The verdite is selected for the quality of its natural veining, making each of the eight dials unique. The dragon’s scales, claws, beard and expression are individually hand-engraved to a level of relief and realism only achievable by the most skilled hands. The lunar globe is composed half of white gold, half of verdite, rotating to show the visible lunar crescent as it appears in the sky. The white opal hours-and-minutes sub-dial absorbs ambient light and emits a soft glow in darkness. The A&S1021 is a manual winding, in-house calibre beating at 3 Hz with 90 hours of power reserve. Its moon phase display accounts for the full complexity of the lunar cycle, 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 2.8 seconds, with an accuracy of one day’s drift per 122 years. Moon phase setting is via the crown, with a secondary moon-age display on the caseback for precise initial calibration.
