URWERK closes the year with the UR-230 “Black Star,” a creation that seems to inhale light rather than reflect it. After the raw carbon of the Eagle and the pristine ceramic of the Polaris, the trilogy concludes in a cosmic hush, a watch steeped in velvety darkness where light returns only in fleeting glints. It is URWERK at its most atmospheric, inviting collectors into a gravitational quiet that feels richly alive. At its centre sits calibre UR-7.30, secured inside a hermetic titanium container built like a miniature vault. Surrounding it is a new laminated composite ceramic made from braided ceramic, fibreglass and carbon fibre. Once machined, the material reveals a glossy relief dotted with sparkling highlights. Felix Baumgartner’s pursuit of ceramic’s sharp, luminous beauty finds its answer here, pairing resilience with an otherworldly surface that reads as vibrant black rather than simple absence. Inside this sculptural shell, wandering-hour satellites sweep across a 120 degree minute track, guided by a retrograde hand that snaps back at the top of each hour. A twin turbine system manages shock absorption and regulates the winding flow, with adjustments visible through two symmetrical indicators on the back. With the Black Star, URWERK concludes the 230 collection on a note of deep, breathing darkness that makes its own light.
