Description

This is one of the most extraordinary examples of a Tudor Submariner 7928 you will ever encounter. Manufactured in 1960 and sold in 1961 by The Robert Simpson Company Limited in Toronto, is one of the most complete and historically significant examples I have ever seen. It is a true time capsule that has remained completely honest and unpolished for over six decades. Provenance and History This watch belonged to a Canadian Army member, and his name is engraved on the caseback as well as written on the original Simpsons receipt. The provenance is as complete as you could hope for: it comes with both the original inner and outer boxes, which are extremely hard to find as a pair, especially with the correct reference sticker still intact. The set also includes the original Tudor guarantee dated and stamped by Simpson store, original price tag, original red Tudor hang tag, the original Simpsons receipt and envelope, and even the original Simpsons store catalogue. Rounding out the history are a photograph of the original owner wearing the watch while diving, a photocopy of his Canadian Army ID, and several of his personal medals – making this not just a watch, but an heirloom-quality piece of Canadian and horological history. Case and Bezel The stainless-steel case remains completely unpolished, showing its honest wear and preserving the watch’s full history. pointed crown guards. The thick, original bezel is present, featuring the radium insert that has aged naturally and retains its radioactive. Both reference and serial numbers are visible between the lugs. Dial and Hands The gilt chapter ring dial is exceptional, having aged into a rich chocolate tropical tone. The gilt printing is sharp and clear, and the lume plots are almost completely present. There is only slight surface loss on the 1 o’clock and 4 o’clock markers, but not full missing plots. a detail that preserves the dial’s overall integrity. The hands are original, including the highly desirable big lollipop seconds hand, and all retain their matching radium lume. This dial remains one of the most attractive tropical gilt examples you can find. Movement and Service The automatic movement has been completely disassembled, cleaned, lubricated, and reassembled during its most recent professional service, ensuring it runs smoothly and is ready to wear. Bracelet The watch retains its original bracelet, which shows natural wear and stretch as you would expect from a bracelet approaching 65 years old, adding to the authenticity of the set. Stamped 1960. My Thoughts As a long-time collector with over fifteen years in the watch world, I can say with confidence that this is one of the most complete and historically significant Tudor 7928s I have ever seen. It has everything a serious collector looks for: early pointed crown guard case, tropical gilt dial, lollipop seconds hand, unpolished case, original bracelet, and a full archive of accessories including the rare inner and outer boxes with reference sticker, guarantee, price tag, hang tag, receipt, envelope, and even the original Simpsons catalogue. The original owner’s name is both on the receipt and engraved on the caseback, adding a special personal touch. Finding a 7928 is easy. Finding a tropical dial is rare. Finding a fully original, unpolished, full-set tropical 7928 with Canadian Army provenance is almost unheard of. This watch tells the full story. from the diving photo of its original owner to his military ID and medals. making it more than a watch, it is a piece of living history. The case is untouched, the bezel retains its radium insert, and the dial has aged to a warm chocolate tropical tone with only minimal lume loss at 1 and 4 o’clock. The lollipop seconds hand and gilt printing make this a textbook collector example. In my view, this is a museum-worthy watch and a once-in-a-lifetime find. Examples this complete and this honest are almost impossible to source today and will only become rarer. For the right buyer, this is not just a watch, it is a story, a time capsule, and a crown jewel for any world-class collection.
