For 2026, TAOS turns from haute couture to the forms of nature, and the first expression of that theme is ‘Genèse’, a profoundly mineral unique piece. The dial is conceived as a cross-section through rock, an organic landscape of juxtaposed strata in which fractures, textures, and densities suggest both geometric study and the long memory of the Earth’s layers. Masculine in character and cased in 18K white gold, it brings several exceptional Métiers d’Art into a single, deliberately architectural composition. The mineral effect is built from three techniques executed by the artisans of Atelier Olivier Vaucher in Geneva. Traditional stone marquetry sets black jade and blue agate into pockets carved to receive each element, every stone cut to the micron so the pattern locks together with complete coherence. Elsewhere, deconstructed engraving lies beneath transparent Grand Feu enamel, alternating shadowed and light-catching surfaces to evoke dense rock under tension. In the lighter zones, under-fired enamel is deliberately held back in the kiln, preserving the grain of the surface so it retains the raw, organic feel of stone resisting erosion. The movement extends the dial, inaugurating a new geometric decoration developed specifically for this piece. Working the raw brass by hand, the engraver spends between 100 and 150 hours echoing the mineral theme across the bridges, while the white gold hands are bevelled and hand-polished, and the case alternates polished and satin finishes. Developed under watchmaker and CEO Olivier Gaud, ‘Genèse’ demands more than 1,000 hours of work, at once landscape and sculpture.
