Within the seven unique pieces of the inaugural 2024 TAOS collection, ‘Envol Bleu’ and ‘Envol Rouge’ form a twinned statement, two interpretations of a single design separated by palette. Envol means flight, and the dials suggest Native American headdresses, with enameled and engraved feathers fanning out across the full surface of each watch. ‘Envol Bleu’ is dominated by deep blues, while ‘Envol Rouge’ concentrates warm reds and oranges at its center, the plumage radiating outward from that fiery heart. The construction layers several disciplines on each dial. Hand engraving is executed both beneath and on top of the enamel, so the texture of each feather reads through the translucent surface, while paillonné enamel introduces fragments of precious foil that catch the light between firings. The work is built up in multiple layers with multiple passages through the kiln, each firing carrying the risk that defines Grand Feu work. At the center of each dial sits a silver-leaf paillon in the shape of a flower, hemmed with diamonds, the still point around which the feathers turn. Like every piece in the inaugural collection, each dial represents over 200 hours of craftsmanship by the artisans of Atelier Olivier Vaucher in Geneva. Both watches house the exclusive self-winding calibre VOP318, developed for TAOS by Télôs under the supervision of watchmaker and CEO Olivier Gaud, its hand-engraved bridges accounting for roughly 100 hours of additional work, all presented in the brand’s 38 mm gold case.
