There is a particular kind of green that exists only in the early morning, when dew sits on leaves and light has not yet hardened into the flat brightness of day. Czapek & Cie has spent the better part of two years trying to capture that green in fired enamel, and the Promenade Goutte de Rosée is the result: a 25 piece limited edition in 18K 3N yellow gold whose Grand Feu flinqué dial does something that photographs struggle to convey, which is to appear as though it is perpetually lit from within. The 38mm case carries forward the architecture of the 2024 Promenade Goutte d’Eau, with its signature optical illusion of water ripples radiating from the small seconds subdial at 4:30, now rendered in warm gold and verdant enamel rather than steel and sapphire blue. The dial is made by Donzé Cadrans, and the process is one of the more demanding in the enamel world. A 925 sterling silver base plate is first stamped with a bespoke die that presses the three dimensional wave motif directly into the metal. From that embossed foundation, artisans apply roughly five successive layers of translucent green enamel by hand, firing the plate in a kiln between each coat. The perceived depth and color shift that give the dial its character come entirely from variations in enamel thickness across the relief: 0.2mm at the crests, up to 0.5mm in the deepest recesses. That 0.3mm differential, managed entirely by hand, is what creates the illusion of movement across a perfectly static surface. Czapek is candid about the cost of this approach. The rejection rate for these dials runs close to 50 percent, roughly double what a conventional Grand Feu project produces, because the tension between thicker and thinner enamel zones can crack the plate when it is cut to final diameter. Donzé Cadrans started with around 60 blanks to guarantee 25 survivors, and only four craftspeople at the atelier have the experience to apply enamel to this particular relief with sufficient consistency. The in house Calibre SXH5.1, visible through a sapphire caseback, provides 60 hours of power reserve via a recycled 950 platinum micro rotor. Every dial that made it through is unique in the most literal sense: enamel thickness within tolerance produces measurably different color saturation from one piece to the next, which means each of the 25 owners holds something that cannot be exactly replicated.
