Extraordinarily beautiful and exceptionally rare lady’s watch by Leroy & Fils, a prestigious Parisian maisons. At the time of its production, around 1940, this was among the most exclusive and expensive women’s timepieces one could purchase, combining haute joaillerie with haute horlogerie at the very best level. Made for the highest echelon of society, these pieces represent a level of craftsmanship whose surviving examples are now increasingly rare. This particular watch has been preserved with breathtaking care. It appears to have been worn only on the most special occasions and its exceptional state is immediately evident. Presented with its original presentation box, it offers the rare opportunity to experience an untouched fragment of Parisian luxury from nearly a century ago. The untouched dial is magnificent: a warm gold-to-salmon tone with a brushed finish, signed and in outstanding condition. The applied dot markers and Arabic quarter numerals remain crisp, and the elegant blued steel hands complete the composition with classic sophistication. The 18k yellow gold square case is a masterpiece of jeweler’s work. It is set with sixteen square-cut natural rubies of exceptional quality, each with a deep, vivid color that frames the dial with regal intensity. At both 12 and 6 o’clock, a platinum shoulder houses five diamonds on each side, adding a discreet yet unmistakable brilliance. The case remains in superb condition, retaining its original finishes and sharpness. The snap-on case back is signed “Leroy & Fils, 35 Avenue de l’Opéra” and individually numbered. Inside ticks a finely made mechanical movement that runs well and remains in good condition, appropriate for a small ladies’ caliber from the 1940s. Naturally, its timekeeping reflects the characteristics of early horlogerie rather than the precision of a modern watch. Perhaps the most extraordinary element of this watch is the bracelet. Crafted in 18k yellow gold, it consists of two tubular tubogas-style chains that drape over the wrist with an extraordinary softness and flexibility. The workmanship is of a level typically reserved for the most important jewelry pieces of the era. The links are lightly elastic, giving the bracelet a gentle, natural stretch, while the secure jeweler-made clasp works perfectly. It fits a wrist of approximately 16 cm and remains in perfect, original condition, fully hallmarked. Measuring 20 x 20 mm and weighing 39 grams, this watch was considered generously sized for a ladies’ timepiece of the 1940s. Even today it carries a distinct and elegant presence on the wrist, substantial enough to feel significant, yet still refined, subtle and impeccably stylish. For the woman who desires something truly unique, this exceptional watch stands as a wearable treasure of Parisian history, elegant, rare, untouched and utterly captivating.
