Extremely Rare “No Tru Beat Dial” Variant with Caliber 1040 The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Tru Beat reference 6556 is already regarded as one of the rarest vintage Rolex watches ever produced. Introduced during the mid 1950s, it was the only Rolex model fitted with a deadbeat seconds complication, meaning the seconds hand jumps once per second similar to a quartz watch. However, the example presented here is even more remarkable and highly unusual. This watch appears to come from the very last production of the reference and features an extremely rare configuration. While it houses the correct Rolex caliber 1040 Tru Beat movement, the dial does not display the words “Tru Beat”. Even more unusual, the seconds hand sweeps smoothly rather than jumping. To our knowledge and based on discussions with collectors and specialists, fewer than 2 examples may exist with this exact configuration. Historical Background During the 1950s Rolex introduced the Tru Beat complication specifically for professionals who required precise second counting, especially doctors and medical researchers. Unlike most mechanical watches where the seconds hand sweeps continuously, the Tru Beat mechanism was designed to jump once per second, allowing users to easily count pulse rates. The Extremely Rare Dial Configuration The most fascinating aspect of this watch is the dial configuration. Unlike standard examples of the reference 6556, this watch has: • The correct Tru Beat reference case • The correct caliber 1040 movement • The correct crosshair dial layout However, the dial does not include the words “Tru Beat.” Additionally: • The seconds hand sweeps smoothly rather than jumping • The dial is completely original and untouched • The configuration appears to be factory original This suggests a very late production piece or a special configuration produced during the final years before Rolex discontinued the model. Examples like this are almost never seen and are believed to exist in extremely small numbers. Dial, Hands, and Luminous Material The dial is preserved in outstanding original condition. The luminous material on both the dial and the hands is original radium from the period. Condition This watch is preserved in excellent collector condition. • Stainless steel Oyster case with sharp edges • Very well preserved surfaces • Original dial and hands • Movement fully serviced in February 2026 • Running exactly as it should The watch remains honest, original, and untouched. Complete Set An additional highlight of this example is the remarkable completeness of the set. The watch includes: • Original Rolex presentation box • Original chronometer certificate Dated May 1959 and April 1960 • Original Rolex warranty Dated May 1960 • Period correct expandable bracelet dated Feb 1960 The watch was originally sold on May 21, 1960 by Boyd Park Jeweler, a respected retailer of the period. The business continues to operate today under the name Bennion Jewelers in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Bracelet The watch is fitted with its period correct expandable bracelet. • Early 1960s expandable design • Stainless steel construction • Extremely well preserved • Virtually no stretch • Virtually no stretch • Dated 2/1960 • Will fit up to 6.75 inc
