US tariffs covered Ref: 2220−0340 Movement: Cal. 2220A Manual wind Jewels: 27 8 seconds/day measured flat on a timegrapher * for reference use Weight (without strap) 44.8g Buckle: 18K solid gold, 3.9g Presented as the pinnacle of Seiko’s horological offerings before they created the Credor line, the Chariot was once the very best of what Seiko had to offer. It was priced accordingly as the the release price was approximately 14 months' salary for a senior-class civil servant at the time making it the most expensive Seiko produced at the time. This particular example was produced in 1973 by the Daini Seikosha Kameido Factory. The design of the 36mm 18Kt Solid Gold case is almost octagonal using a round Florentine-finish bezel to break up its angular execution. The Chariot’s display is elegantly executed and exceedingly rare. Boasting thin sword hands in 18kt yellow gold with white lume, the Chariot is still supremely legible even with the background of the exquisite marbled Jade dial. The strap is Ostrich with Turned Edge, handmade by Ikuon. While the original strap has been replaced due to wear, at the time of release it had the same Ikuon Gordian Turned Edge strap. The watch also comes with its original box. Except for the crystal which has scratches and nicks the watch is in an overall exceptional condition given its age. The movement performs excellently and does not require servicing in the near future. It is estimated Seiko made less than 300 pieces in total - in two different configurations, with around half in a white gold turquoise dial configuration and the other half in this exclusive Yellow Gold Jade setting. That would make it one of the rarest Seiko watches ever made and that is not even considering that they were produced almost 60 years ago thus the number of them still in existance is likely much lower than that currently. Given its extreme rarity, historical significance and the combination of the 18Kt Gold case and Jade dial which are the epitome of luxury even by today's standards make this watch not only the very definition of a grail but a unicorn that might not be seen in the wild ever again.
