Tissot Navigator World Time Ref. 4002-2 | Rare Cal. 28.5N-21T Automatic | Mid-1950s Offered from my personal collection is this attractive and increasingly collectible Tissot Navigator World Time Automatic dating to the mid-1950s. One of Tissot's most distinctive post-war designs, the Navigator features a rotating 24-hour world-time display with a city ring showing major destinations across the globe. It is powered by the desirable Tissot Calibre 28.5N-21T automatic movement and housed in a substantial 35.7mm gold-capped case, making it remarkably wearable by modern standards. Specifications * Brand: Tissot * Model: Navigator World Time Automatic * Reference: 4002-2 * Period: Mid-1950s * Movement: Tissot Calibre 28.5N-21T Automatic * Movement Serial Number: 2,758,074 * Case Diameter: 35.7mm (excluding crown) * Lug-to-Lug: 42.5mm * Lug Width: 18mm * Case Material: 80-micron gold-capped case with stainless steel caseback * Crystal: Acrylic * Strap: Generic brown leather strap * Buckle: Gold-tone buckle Dial The watch retains its original world-time dial and city disc. Originally silvered, the outer dial has developed a striking parchment-toned patina over many decades, giving the watch a unique appearance that can only be acquired through natural ageing. The city ring remains highly legible, with major destinations including Cairo, Baghdad, Bombay, Calcutta, Bangkok, Shanghai, Tokyo, Sydney, Auckland, Honolulu, San Francisco, New York, Buenos Aires, Dakar, Greenwich and Rio de Janeiro clearly visible. The original red International Date Line marker near Auckland is also present. Movement The watch is powered by the correct and comparatively uncommon Tissot Calibre 28.5N-21T automatic movement. Movement photographs clearly show the calibre designation, while the interior caseback displays the correct Ref. 4002-2 markings. The movement is running strongly. Timegrapher Results (Dial Up) * Rate: +2 seconds/day * Amplitude: 239° * Beat Error: 1.3 ms * Lift Angle: 52° * Beat Rate: 19,800 bph These readings were recorded at the time of listing and compare favourably with many vintage watches of similar age. They are provided for reference only and do not constitute a guarantee of future performance. Condition An honest collector-grade survivor. The gold-capped case retains its original shape with expected signs of age and wear. The original dial exhibits extensive but attractive patina while remaining highly legible. The world-time mechanism operates correctly and advances the city disc as intended. The fitted leather strap and gold-tone buckle are modern replacements provided for presentation and wear. Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description and condition report. Remarks Early Navigator World Time models are increasingly sought after for their historical significance, attractive world-time display and comparatively large case size. Particularly noteworthy is the presence of the rarer Calibre 28.5N-21T automatic movement. Combined with the original world-time dial, functioning city-ring mechanism and substantial 35.7mm case, it contributes significantly to the appeal of this early Navigator. This example will particularly appeal to collectors who value originality and honest ageing over restoration. The combination of original dial, attractive long-term patina, rare movement and strong mechanical performance makes it a compelling vintage world-time wristwatch from the golden era of Swiss watchmaking.
