Dodane was considered one of the best manufacturers of aviation watches, and it is therefore not surprising that it was one of the four manufacturers selected by the French Army in 1954 to produce their chronographs, the famous Type xx. A few years later the Type xxi was released, following an even stricter specification than its cousin reference produced for civilian and military use. This one is a real nugget, but above all of a rarity without name. First of all because it was assigned to the cev (Centre d'Essai en Vol, as the engraving on the bottom of the box attests), an administration attached to the Direction Générale de l'Armement in charge of testing and guaranteeing the equipment before their use in the field. Very few watches were assigned to this section. Add to that a dial that has been tropicalized to a slightly brown and uniform patina, and you have the military watch of the decade. Cherry on the cake: This one is equipped with a Valjoux 231, which represents hardly 200 watches on the 5000 Type xx/xxi produced by Dodane in 40 years. A rarity in competition condition!
