Fortis Marinemaster Chronograph 200m - Ref. 8001 - Cal. Valjoux 72 - rare! The Fortis Marinemaster 8001 is a diver’s chronograph from the early 1970s with a funky aesthetic. The combination of a diver’s watch and a chronograph is quite rare. Fortis was founded in Grenchen in 1912. It developed watches for the navy and space travel. From 1994 onward, it was the official watch supplier for Russian cosmonauts. This watch is equipped with the same movement as the early Rolex Daytonas: the Valjoux 72. A standout feature of this watch is, of course, the yellow-rimmed sub-dials. The 30-minute counter is also divided into three red sections. The hour and minute hands feature a beautiful design with steel rims and a magenta center, while the chronograph seconds hand is white. Bidirectional bezel and dial with tachymeter scale. The choice of colors is not purely aesthetic but functional and technical: they ensured excellent readability underwater.
